You may soon be able to carry a digital copy of your driver’s license on your cell phone.

A bill by State Sen. Eddie Melton would allow you to apply for a “mobile driver’s license” to go along with your plastic card.

You’d be able to pull up your license, learner’s permit, or state ID card on your phone using a smartphone app.

Melton’s bill made it through committee this week and has advanced to the full Senate for a vote.

If the bill is passed into law, Indiana would become the 15th state to adopt a law allowing drivers to carry a “mobile driver’s license” on their phones.
