Update from the local Rotary

The Rotary Club of Washington (IN), held five meetings during the month of January.

On January 2nd, Rotary hosted the new Executive Director of the Daviess Co. Economic Development Commission, Bryant Niehoff. Bryant reviewed his past experience, which includes stops in Rushville & Shelbyville, IN respectively and his education at Ball St. University. He then went to discuss his first month on the job and his vision for the DCEDC.

On January 9th, Rotary held a club assembly where the members who on various projects that the club has going on, including planning for their 100th Anniversary which will happen later this year.

On January 16th Rotary hosted Keith Miller, Chief Operating Officer and Angie Steiner, Director of DCH Foundation, Marketing, & Provider Recruitment both of Daviess Community Hospital. Keith and Angie spoke about the new Oncology project that is occurring at DCH. The new oncology unit will be located on the first floor of the hospital in the space formerly occupied by the rehab therapies department prior to their move to the CORE Center. Keith and Angie spoke about the growth DCH has seen with their oncology unit which has expanded from 4 days/month to 10 days/month with potential for further expansion.

On January 23rd, Rotary hosted the newest Sheriff of Daviess County, Gary Allison. Sheriff Allison, spoke to Rotary about his first 3 weeks on the job as well as his vision for the department. The Sheriff discussed his rise from dispatcher, to jailor, to deputy, as well as work with the DEA, prior to becoming Sheriff.

On January 30th, Judy Bush, with Friends of the Washington Carnegie Library. Judy talked about the role that the Friends of the Library in assisting the library. The Friends have been integral in helping develop the STEM programming, where they currently have a waiting list. Judy mentioned that they are always look for new member for the Friends of the Library and that membership forms are available at the front desk.

Upcoming Events:

Rotary will hold 4 meetings in February including their annual 4-way speech contest on February 6th at the Washington Carnegie Library. Rotary will host speakers from the Red Cross & Eastside Flower & Gifts the weeks following the speech contest. To end February, the Rotarians will continue to plan their 100th Anniversary event.
