(NETWORK INDIANA)   Tyler Trent, known as the Purdue superfan, has died. Trent had a rare form of bone cancer. He led fans and the team in a chant of “cancer sucks” for the first time in 2017.

“As everyone knows now across the country, he’s been an inspiration to us, our football team, our community, our school and now the entire nation,” said Purdue head football coach Jeff Brohm, speaking last week. “His strength has helped us overcome things along the way, to see how he’s handled himself, with class, with dignity, with a great attitude, a great smile, always trying to do the right thing and say the right thing and help other people, always grateful for what he has.”

“It’s with the deepest sorrow that we have to say goodbye to @theTylerTrent. We have all become #TylerStrong. To his family, words can’t express how sorry we are that he has passed. His life May have been short, but his legacy with be forever,” Tweeted the Purdue Cancer Center, from Trent’s account.

“Tyler Trent was among the biggest, strongest and wisest people you could ever meet. He reminded us what being good is all about,” said Gov. Holcomb, in a statement upon hearing of Trent’s passing. “I’m convinced Tyler was touched by our Lord and guided home every step of the way. Janet and I send our love to the Trent family and remain here for them.”

Trent was recently named a Sagamore of the Wabash and attended sporting events up until last week. He was 20.
