Sullivan County authorities, along with investigators from the Indiana State Police, continue to seek the person responsible for the 1981 murder of 51-year-old Jeanette Benson of Farmersburg.

According to police reports on January 2, 1981, Jeanette Benson had returned from Terre Haute where she had been grocery shopping to find an intruder inside her home. Jeanette’s husband, Emory, was at work in Terre Haute at the time. Authorities say two neighbors describe seeing a “robin egg blue” four-door Plymouth Valiant, parked in the Benson’s driveway just prior to her returning home. The vehicle was missing its hubcaps. Another said the vehicle was medium size with “shiny” blue paint.

A resident in the area at the time told police the white male in the vehicle was tall, thin and possibly in his 20’s – and believed to have been wearing a vest. Authorities say the murder suspect would now be in his 50’s. The man was seen exiting the vehicle and knocking on the Benson’s front door.
