The last of a dozen homes on 2nd Street to be demolished to make room for a VU student housing project has been razed.

The home known locally at “Big Blue” in the city’s historic district has been taken down.

It’s all part of a Vincennes University project to be called the “French Village.”  The Vincennes Sun Commercial (www.suncommercial.com) says it will feature town homes for non-traditional students and those in the university’s 4-year baccalaureate-degree programs.

Some commercial buildings including the Piggy Banc Pawn building are scheduled to be razed soon.  Piggy Banc says they will be moving to 1107 Main which is currently home to Helping His Hands Disaster Response which has also indicated a move.

The Vincennes Housing Review Board still needs to approve the look and color of the “French Village” plans before any construction starts.
