WHS’s Computer Science Class Gave Demonstrations at School Board Meeting

Washington High School is the only southern Indiana school, and only one of a few schools in the state to offer students all three STEM curriculum paths of Project Lead the Way. The Project Lead the Way Curriculum has three paths, bio-med, computer science, and engineering.
At Thursday night’s Washington School Board meeting, two of the schools programs gave demonstrations and report to the Board. Matt Riney brought several students from Washington High School’s Computer Science class.
Riney said the class has completed a unit on developing computer apps and is very hands-on.

Riney’s Computer science students demonstrated two apps they have developed, along with a demonstration of a self-driving vehicle developed by the students.
The Board also heard a report from Washington High School’s award winning PBA program. Sponsored by Brian Hancock, the Washington High School BPA had 40 students enter district competition with over half of them advancing to the state level. Cannon Shake told the Board the local students won first place in the district competition in Broadcast News Production. Shake said the local radio and TV class was important to the team’s success

Peyton Summers said confidence was a major factor in their success

Shake also pointed out the number of past students who have chosen careers in communication because of the Radio and TV class.
WHS Principal Steve Peterson said WHS is proud of the wide variety of opportunities the school offers its students

Peterson said is Washington High School programs are about preparing kids for their lives after they leave high school
