Several Christmas Activities Planned for Washington

It is the week before Christmas, and all through the area, people are celebrating.
In Washington tonight the focus will be on East Side Park and the final night of Christmas in the Park. Between 6 and 8 this evening, visitors to Washington’s East Side Park can enjoy refreshments, take carriage rides, visit with Santa, register to win bicycles, or just take in the hundreds of lighted displays and the thousands of colored lights at the Park. The events all take place at the Park’s Community Building. While admission is free, Parks and Recreation Superintendent Kip Kelley is asking those who come to bring a non-perishable food item to help stock local food banks. Visitors driving through the Park are asked to reduce their speed and drive with caution.

On Thursday, sirens and flashing lights will mark the 28th annual Cops & Kids. Last year local donations allowed the FOP to spend over $20,000 to bring a Merry Christmas to over 170 kids from the 3 Daviess and Martin County Head Start Schools. Project chairman Steve Riney talks about the Cops and Kids schedule.

The program is funded through donations from businesses, individuals, and groups throughout the area. And Steve Riney says donations are still being accepted.

Then this weekend, the 20th Century Chevy Car Club will be out with their 43rd annual Christmas for Kids. Club member Sonny Miller talks about the distribution schedule.

The program started with the club’s charter members and has helped many families and kids throughout the years. This year 20th Century Chevy members with the help of donations and Toys for Tots from the Crane base, will help 24 families with 81 kids.
With all this going on…and the smiles on the kids faces…It IS Christmas time.
