Monroe city gets funds to upgrade water and sewer systems

        Monroe city is getting million in grants and loans to help upgrade the town’s sewer and water systems.

        Monroe City is receiving $1.2 million in grant money from the US Department of Agriculture and $1.5 million in loans to replace the lift station and replace a sewer lane as well replace equipment at the water plant.  Another USDA grant for $281,000 and a $755,000 loan from the USDA will pay for a new well, new pipes and new water meters.

        The work will be beneficial to 248 Monroe City Homes and 275 water customers.

        The total amount of funds in grants and loans totals around $4 million.
