Don’t eat the romaine lettuce

The Food and Drug Administration says 32 people in 11 states have gotten sick in another E.coli outbreak linked to romaine lettuce.

The strain of E.coli identified in this outbreak is different than the one found in romaine earlier this year, but it appears similar to one linked to leafy greens in 2017, says FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb.

Gottlieb says the agency is trying to determine the source of the lettuce that made people sick. The FDA and labs in several states are also analyzing romaine lettuce samples potentially linked to the current outbreak.

The best way to avoid getting sick is to avoid buying or eating hearts of romaine, heads of romaine lettuce, and salads or pre-made salad mixes made with romaine. If you have any romaine lettuce, you should throw it away.
