New line item added for drug forfeitures, 80k approved for Sheriff Dept overtime and more

The Daviess County Council approved a new line item in the Prosecutor’s budget at Wednesday morning’s meeting.  Daviess County Prosecutor Dan Murrie requested the addition to hold funds from forfeitures from drug cases.  Murrie said the separate line item for funds from forfeitures would provide transparency in the handling the money.
The Council also agreed to sign a letter of support for the County Highway Department’s application for a grant to complete the final phase of the O’Donnell-Cannelburg Road project.  County Highway Superintendent Phil Cornelius told the Council that the completion of the first four phases of the project has already made the road safer and saved lives.  Phase 5 of the project will run from CR 300 N to CR 100 N, if the grant application is approved by INDOT.
In other business, the Council approved additional $80,000 in appropriations for Sheriff’s Department overtime, license renewals for the IT Department, Commissioners expenditures for patients in institutions, and replacing equipment for Emergency Management.  The Council also approved a request from County Surveyor Shawn Gabhart for $50,000 to survey and place section corners.
