Crane man jailed for Criminal Confinement

 The Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Loogootee Police Department, Indiana State Police, and the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, responded to a reported hostage situation that resulted in an arrest in Crane on Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at approximately 9:52 AM, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office received information from Indiana State Police District 34 Dispatch of a hostage situation on McVay Street in Crane. Martin County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Keith Keller, Deputy John Wright, Sheriff Travis Roush, Loogootee Police Chief Kelly Rayhill, Indiana State Police Master Trooper Gary Wier, Martin County Prosecutor C. Michael Steiner, and Greene County Deputy Jordan Gooding responded to the residence.

At 10:27 AM, a secure perimeter was set up around the residence. A telephone call was made to the victim with no response. Moments later, at 10:33 AM, the female victim was able to exit the residence without incident. A telephone call was made to the suspect by deputies on scene. At 10:53 AM, deputies were able to get the suspect to exit the residence without incident.

The suspect, identified as John A. Willoughby, of Crane was taken into custody and arrested by Sergeant Keller. Willoughby was transported and lodged in the Martin County Security Center.
