Trial set in advertising fraud case

A trial has been scheduled for a Vincennes woman charged with Felony Theft for commission paid on unauthorized advertising for the newspaper company she worked for.

25-year-old Neely Held was arrested in July for one felony Count of Theft and 14 felony forgery and seven counts of felony fraud for allegedly using customer credit cards.

Held worked as an ad sales rep for Paxton Media Group which is the parent company of the Vincennes Sun Commercial, Princeton Daily Clarion and Mount Carmel Register newspapers.  She quit in April when she was questioned about unauthorized ads.

The Princeton Daily Clarion quoted court records saying Held allegedly racked up over $125,000 in client overcharges and unauthorized charges.  Police say she placed false ads, forged signatures on contracts and used customer credit cards to buy personnel items and charge other business accounts.

A 3 to 4 day trial was scheduled to begin April 8th in Gibson County.
