A very surprised and then emotional Sherriff Jerry Harbstreit was given the state’s highest honor from the governor today. The Sheriff who has served multiple terms as Daviess County Sheriff and a two time president of the Indiana Sheriff’s Association is now a Sagamore of the Wabash.

Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch was in Washington today on behalf of Governor Eric Holcomb to present the honor at the Security Center…

The Sheriff had no idea what was coming today.  Chief Deputy Gary Allison and others managed to pull off the surprise.  Gary took Jerry out under the pretense of looking at a house and they took a long ride in the river bottoms.     When they got back to the office, the sheriff still had no idea…

A room filled with family friends, county and city officials and sheriffs from five other counties and the Director of the Indiana Sheriff’s Association were on hand to witness the moment late this morning.
