The North Daviess Lady Cougars opened the basketball season last night with a loss to North Knox 38 to 26.  McKenzie Meurer led the Warriors with 22 points.

Vincennes Lincoln topped Sullivan 59 to 41

South Knox topped White River Valley 55 to 38

The Boston Celtics have a three-game winning streak and a 5-2 record after beating the Detroit Pistons for the second time in four days.  Kyrie Irving poured in a season-high 31 points and Jayson Tatum added 16 as the Celtics escaped with a 108-105 victory over the visiting Pistons.

Charlotte earned a 125-113 win over the Heat

 A person familiar with the decision says the Cleveland Cavaliers have been selected by the NBA to host the 2022 All-Star Game at Quicken Loans Arena, which is receiving a massive renovation. Cleveland last hosted the event in 1997, when the league honored its Top 50 players.

Seven-time All-Star Chris Sale will be back to help the Boston Red Sox try to defend their World Series championship.  The Red Sox have exercised their 2019 option on the left-hander, who will earn $15 in the final season of the five-year contract he signed with the White Sox. He can become an unrestricted free agent in 2020.

 Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (RAWTH’-lihs-bur-gur) is dealing with a broken index finger on his left hand. It’s not expected to be an issue for Roethlisberger when the AFC North-leading Steelers travel to Baltimore.

 The NFL says it will play four regular-season games in London next year, two at Wembley Stadium and two at the new stadium being built for Premier League team Tottenham. The NFL did not say which teams would be making the trip, or when the games will be played.

Alabama, Clemson, LSU and Notre Dame are the top four teams in the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season. The 13-member selection committee released the first of its five weekly top 25s before the four-team field is set for the College Football Playoff semifinals on Dec. 2. Michigan is fifth, followed by Georgia and Oklahoma.
