Mettie E. Rhodes

Mettie E. Rhodes, 81, formerly of Monroe City, IN, passed away October 14, 2018, at the Harrison County Hospital in Corydon, IN.

Mettie was a cook at the Southside Inn, and at her own restaurant, Granny’s kitchen, both in New Albany, IN. She was a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary, and a Past-President of the VFW Auxiliary.

Surviving are her daughters, Darlene Kellams of Georgetown, IN, Arlene Rodewig of Greenville, IN, and Joyce Valentine of Gulf Port, FL; her son, Nelson Thompson of Ramsey, IN; her sisters, Suzanne Tapley of Vincennes, IN, Sandy Greentree of Bicknell, IN, and Sharon Smith of Vincennes, IN; her brothers, Ted Foster of Winslow, IN, Gene Foster of Vincennes, IN, and Gary Foster of Vincennes, IN; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Born February 12, 1937, in Perry County, IN, Mettie was the daughter of Arthur and Anabelle (Eaton) Foster. Her parents; her husbands, Edgar Thompson and Dale Rhodes; her companion, Richard Like; her son, Roger Thompson; and five sisters and brothers preceded her.

Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 – 7:00 on Tuesday, at the Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, at 10:30, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
