The Indiana Department of Transportation and Mistate Regional Development Authority have come to an agreement allowing an Environmental Impact Study on a project linking two interstates and extending the US 231 corridor.
The route on 231 would go from Owensboro, KY to Dale, IN, bypass Jasper and Huntingburg and connect to I69.
The Washington Times Herald today quoted Daviess County Economic Development Corporation Director Ron Arnold say that Daviess County could be the northern point of the road. Arnold says an additional interstate could mean additional development opportunity.
Funding for the study comes from a Regional Development Authority from Dubois County. Usually money would come from INDOT but a new law changed that. The law was proposed by State Senator Mark Messmer of Jasper and former State Representative Mike Braun of Jasper.
The next step is to solicit firms to do the study. A contract on a study could be awarded next spring.
