The late Kendall Murphy of Montgomery will be one of five from Indiana honored at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service Sunday. The event is in Emmitsburg, Maryland at the National Fire Academy. In all, 80 firefighters who died in 2017 will be honored and remembered.
Murphy died in the line of duty last year at a vehicle accident when he was hit by another first responder on the scene.
This week firehouses and other buildings are lit up in the yearly remembrance known as Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters. The Montgomery Fire Station and the Murphy Home are part of that lighting and the Washington Times Herald reports the dome of St. Peters Church may be lit up tonight to remember fallen firefighters.
