Late summer festivals abound

The Monroe City Fall Festival at the Blue Jeans Center which raises money for the center starts tonight with a Spaghetti Supper at 5 followed by live music from local favorite Rodney Watts.       Saturday you can learn to paint from 9 to Noon, see a Pet Parade at 10:30.  There’s a queen contest at 2 and a Variety Show at 7.  Fireworks will cap things off Saturday night.  In addition to all that there is a flea market, food of all kinds, a country store and a few rides and inflatables. 

          In Southern Pike County, the Winslow Fall Festival goes on in Winslow.  There are events at Riverside Park and Center and Main Streets in Winslow.  Some highlights include live music throughout the day Saturday, an inflatable slide and games, a tractor show and flea market and a flea market.  The Winslow Community Center is open 8 to Noon and will feature an event to honor 9/11 police and firemen from New York City.  It’s a Stair Climb and commemorates the loss of the over 400 police and firemen in the aftermath of the attacks.  The physically demanding activity allows you to retrace the ascent and descent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center        

Also, it’s city wide yard sale day in Petersburg Saturday.
