Salary and other ordinances pass city council

The Washington City Council approved several ordinances after second reading at their regular meeting.  Three of the ordinances set the 2019 salaries and benefits for the city employees, police and fire departments, and elected officials.   The Mayor’s annual salary was set at $63,637.60 while the Clerk Treasurer’s pay was set at $57,881.20.  Both are paid out of the General and utility Funds.  Council members receive an annual salary of $6,220.24

       

 Another ordinance gave final approval to a plat for a section of the Deerfield Subdivision.   It will be 2.55 acres east of Washington and eventually will include 3 lots with 340 feet of new streets.

 

         The third set of ordinances simplified the fees paid by owners of pets retrieved from the Animal Shelter.  The hope is for pet owners to retrieve their animals faster if they are impounded. The fee for board and feeding was raised from 2 to $10 per day.  Also a flat fee to reclaim an animal was set at $20. The

 

        Also last night it was announced that Washington residents will get an extra month of free rides on the City Bus.  The council approved extending the free fares on the City Bus through the end of September.   The free rides were set to end this Friday August 31st, but again they’ve been extended through Sept 30th.
