I-69 construction crews prepare for student move-in

(AP) — Construction crews working on Interstate 69 are preparing for an influx of traffic as Indiana University students begin moving in.

The Indiana Department of Transportation is in the final stages of construction of a 21-mile (34-kilometer)section of the highway between Bloomington and Martinsville.

The Herald Times reports that the Transportation Department is trying to finish work on two overpasses in Bloomington that are considered choke points for traffic.

University spokesman Chuck Carney says the bulk of the school’s more than 40,000 students are expected to arrive next week.

There will still be lane restrictions on the north end of the project. Transportation Department spokesman Andy Dietrick says commuters can avoid the area using two alternative routes.

Contractors are trying to meet Aug. 31 target of substantial completion.
