Invasive species ordinance passes in Knox Co.

        An ordinance prohibiting the sale of invasive species passed on final reading

 at the Knox County Commissioners meeting last night.  The ordinance is believed to the first of its kind in the state of Indiana.

        The Vincennes Sun Commercial (www.suncommercial.com) says the room erupted in applause after the vote.

        The ordinance includes a list of 64 plants that cannot be sold, traded or imported into the Knox County by nurseries, grocery stores, chains or any vendor.

        As part of the ordinance, a five member board will be appointed to be called the Knox County Invasive Species Board. They will be appointed and have meeting times set up soon.
