Thomas L. “Thom” Newman, 65, of Vincennes

Thomas L. “Thom” Newman, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. 

Thom was born on September 10, 1952 the son of George and Evelyn (Williams) Newman. He married Denise Smith on August 14 1971 and they were married for forty-seven years.

Thom served his country during the Vietnam era in the U.S. Army National Guard and was a member of Community United Methodist Church. He was a welding instructor for Vincennes University for thirty- two years, past Master and current Secretary for the Masonic Lodge # 548, a member of Haiti Shrine, and Scottish Rite, American Welding Association, and Past President of Camp Arthur Foundation. Thom was also the current chair of the Vincennes Zoning Board.

Survivors include his wife, Denise Newman; sons, Travis Newman and his wife Cassi, Kevin Newman; father, George Newman; brothers, Jeff Newman and his wife Julie, Dave Newman and his wife Patty; sister, Chris McCrary and her husband Troy; grandchildren Gabe and Kendyl Newman; nieces and nephews, Eric Newman and his wife Lori, Jessica Swan and her husband Jason, Jenna Lankford and her husband Clay, Corbin, Trent, and Lauren McCrary, Jeff and Dan Mooney, Kale and Garrett Smith, Leah Huey and her husband Chris; great nieces and nephews, Aubri Oexmann, Parker, Caleb, Jax, and Luke Newman, Peyton Swan, Everly Lankford, Primm Huey, and special great niece, Ella Hudson. Thom was preceded in death by his mother, grandson Cole Newman, and nephew Brad Newman.

Friends may visit with Thom’s family on Thursday, July 26, 2018 from 3-8 pm at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes. Thom’s funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Goodwin Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Tromley officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Vincennes University Welding Department or Monroe City Masonic Lodge # 548. Goodwin Funeral Home is honored to assist the Newman family with arrangements.
