(AP) — More than 100 acres (40 hectares) of woodland along southern Indiana’s Lake Monroe has been added to the Hoosier National Forest.
The property is near the Hardin Ridge Recreation Area that’s operated by the U.S. Forest Service. Hoosier National Forest official Ron Scott tells The (Bloomington) Herald-Times that the family owning the land first offered to sell it about five years ago.
Scott says the 113 acres (46 hectares) of undeveloped land hasn’t been logged for many years and now has a mixed hardwood forest. He says the family was patient as Hoosier National Forest leaders sought funding for the $445,000 purchase, which was approved last year.
The Hoosier National Forest includes some 204,000 acres (82,556 hectares) extending from the Bloomington area south to the Ohio River.
