Paving to start soon

The harsh winter did serious damage to Washington’s streets.  Mayor Joe Wellman recently returned from a trip to northern Indiana, and noted that pot holes and weather damaged roads are a problem all over the state.  Washington’s streets are no exception and are due for repaving….

The Mayor told WAMW that areas of some streets will need to be completely rebuilt. ..

Again work is set to start in early June.

The Washington City Council approved updates to the City Employees Handbook and heard the first reading of an ordinance that would rezone lots on East South Street.   Under the proposed ordinance requested by Tru Scripts, a prescription benefits management company, three lots on South Street would be rezoned from Residential 3 to Commercial 1.  The ordinance will be up for final reading at the next Council meeting.

The Mayor also announced the City has hired Ellettsville native Joseph Dutton as an I.T. Assistant.

The Board of Public Works and Safety met after the Council meeting and approved contracts with the Southern Indiana Development Corporation as part of the pass-through grant to fund expansion of the PACE/Headstart building on Cosby Road.   The Board also approved a contract to lease space on City utility poles to Vero Fiber to run cable between the local schools.  The lease is for $12 per year, per pole.
