School Board recognizes students and accepts retirements and resignations

         The Washington School Board recognized students for their recent achievements in academics and the arts.

        School Board President Steve Frette said 39 student of the class of 2018 will graduate with a 3.9 GPA or higher.  Some of the students were on hand for the meeting.

        Also there were the schools award winning chorus and band programs The Washington Accent Show Choir finished first at a national competition in Chicago this past week.   Meanwhile, the Guys in Ties, the male counterpart finished 2nd.  The High School Band Winter Drum Line finished 3rd in state competition earlier this month.  The band director is Brandon Hagen…

        In personnel matters at the board meeting, the retirements of Griffith Elementary teacher Susie Newton and elementary PE teacher Arlene Owen were accepted.

       The board also accepted the resignation of Julie Beekler, a high school ELL teacher, Alicia Hand as varsity volleyball coach and Kimberly Benefield, a North Elementary Aid.

        The board appointed Taylor Gray as Jr High Secretary and Cindy Kramer as a substitute for a medical leave at Lena Dunn.
