River flooding not expected to be as bad as early March

Area rivers are under flood warnings.

          Extensive river flooding is developing and will continue into the first week of April.            Significant flooding will occur in a few areas.  Flood crests will be a few feet lower than those of late February and early March.  The worst flooding will be along the White…East Fork White and the Wabash Rivers in the Mount Carmel and New Harmony areas.

 

        The White at Edwardsport was at 15.5 feet which is a half foot above flood stage.  It’s expected to rise to 19.5 feet Saturday and then start to fall. At Petersburg the White is at 18.5 feet which is 2.5 feet above flood stage.  Its’ expected to rise to 23 feet by next Tuesday and then start to fall.

        The Wabash at Vincennes was still below the 16 foot flood stage measure 14.5 last night.  It will rise to nearly 18 feet by next Tuesday. The White at Mt. Carmel will rise to 25 feet by this time next week which  is six feet above flood stage there.

        The East Fork White at Shoals is forecast to rise to nearly 21 feet next week which is one foot above flood stage.

        The Patoka River at Winslow is coming out of its banks.  It’s was on its way to reaching nearly 22 feet
