Unsubstantiated threats were taken seriously by law enforcement and school officials in Loogootee on Friday.   It all started in the morning when a potential threat at the high school was received.  The school later said it was not directed at any specific staff member or student.  The threat was contained and classes continued, however law enforcement began a thorough search of the buildings and plans were put in place for early dismissal to assist in the search.   In the meantime as internal security protocol was implemented, a student was taken into custody.  As the investigation progressed, a 2nd threat was made by another student who was detained and also taken into custody.   School Superintendent Chip MeHaffey stated that a legitimate threat was never substantiated by any evidence, but again it was decided to dismiss students for a building search.    The search was completed at 2:3opm and nothing was found.   MeHaffey added that he knows the community likely wants more details but state and federal laws he said restricts certain information from being released.  A Community Safety Forum is planned for Monday night at 6-pm at Loogootee High School’s Auditorium to provide further information regarding school safety.
