Two Die After Vehicle Goes into Wabash

An autopsy is scheduled for today for the two Oaktown women killed in an early morning accident Sunday.

33-year-old Breezie Mason and 32-year-old Meaghan Meeks died after the 1-am incident when the military 4-wheel Humvee they were in, inadvertently drove off an embankment into the Wabash River

The women’s husbands,  34-year-old Kyle Mason and 33-year-old Cody Meeks were able to get out of the vehicle and swim to the bank.  They ran a mile-and-a-half back to Mason’s home and Mason got another four wheel drive and drove back to the scene to find the women. Meeks went to a neighbor’s home to call for help.  Mason’s home did not have a phone line and cell phones were lost in the wreck.

The vehicle was located by emergency personnel but a strong current made a difficult to remove it from the river.  At 10:30 Sunday morning, both women were found when the vehicle was pulled from the river.  No foul play is suspected.
