Durward Royce “Dude” Miller

Durward Royce “Dude” Miller, age 98 of Cannelburg, passed away at 4:33 PM on Friday, January 19, 2018 at The Villages at Oakridge.

He was born on January 24, 1919 in Littles, Indiana to Denceal and Lela (Williams) Miller. He was a US Army Veteran of World War II where he served in the Signal Corps, 17 Airborne, Glider Forces. He earned 5 bronze stars, 2 spearheads, and was involved with the last airborne invasion in Germany, “Operation Varsity”, during World War II.   He retired from NSWC Crane where he had worked for several years.

He is survived by one daughter, Sandi Lengacher; two sons, Rev. Fr Larry (Anna) Miller, and David (Bob Daniel) Miller; grandchildren, Heidi (Carlos) Bartlett, Courtney (Stewart) Hite, Phillip Miller, Steve (Schely) Lengacher, Dave Lengacher, Nikki (Jim) Kilpatrick, and Angie (Shawn) Chaney;  siblings, Elsie Miller Gillen, Joyce Miller Jenkins, Donna Miller (Peter) Collins-Kizito, Mary Miller Vaugn and John (Judy) Miller;  and 11 great grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances ‘Jean’ (Seal) Miller on October 31, 2009 whom he had married on October 13, 1945. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, William Miller; a daughter, Carol Hedrick; a grandson, Donald Lengacher; sister, Betty (Miller) Crouse; and brothers, Herbert W. Miller, Buethel Miller, Bill Miller, and Warren Miller.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday at All Saints Catholic Church in Cannelburg with Father James Koressel as celebrant. Burial will follow in St John Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church.
