Richard Dale ‘Dick’ Cottrell, 82, of Odon, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Washington, Indiana. He was born in Kokomo, Indiana on November 12, 1935 to Dale Franklin and Jane Clovis (Hufford) Cottrell. Dick married his loving wife, Janet Gay (Foglesong) Cottrell on October 28, 1979.
Dick served in the National Guard for nine years in Kokomo. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Odon, the Odon Lions Club and the White River Valley Antique Association. Dick retired in 1973 as a bank cashier and then worked at Walnut Hill Cemetery for 19 years before retiring in January 2015. He served on the Odon Town Board, Daviess County Economic Development and the volunteer fire department.
Survivors include: one son, Michael Cottrell of Flora, IN; one daughter, Michelle (Daniel) Bott, of Flora, IN; one step-son, Kenneth ‘Greg’ (Deidre) Bechtel of Odon; five step-daughters, Cynthia Asdell of Washington, Linda (Ronald) Woodruff of Plainville, Sheila (Larry) Maryfield of Washington, IN, Janet (Robert) Price of Colorado and Lisa Throop of Indianapolis, IN; thirteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Dick was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Janet Cottrell; son, William Dale Cottrell; daughter, Catherine Cottrell; grandson, Travis Kyle Woodruff and son-in-law, William David Asdell.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon with Bro. Richard Smith officiating. Dick will be laid to rest in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Odon.
Family and friends may call from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM on Monday, January 15 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Odon. Envelopes will be available at the church.
