The Daviess County Courthouse Annex project is a “go” as far as the City of Washington is concerned.  The location the Daviess County Commissioners have selected for the Annex and parking lot expansion are in an area zoned as residential by the City of Washington and the County needed variances from City before beginning construction.  The Washington Board of Zoning Appeals granted the County’s request for variances on the City’s set back and maximum lot coverage for the Annex’s proposed location oh Hefron Street between NE Third and NE Fourth.  Another variance was granted to permit the construction of a parking lot where Purdue Extension, the County Health Department, and the County IT office are currently located.   The Board approved the variances with a 7-0 vote.

In other business the BZA approved April Emmons’ request to place a Type II manufactured home on the lot at 401 Poplar Street.  The double-wide manufactured home will be fastened to a foundation and will not have wheels.

The Board also approved a request of Andries Mora to build an over-sized garage at 247 Apraw Road.  The garage will be 7 feet taller and 200 sq. ft. larger than city code permits.  The Board reminded Mora the oversized garage could not be used for commercial purposes or converted into a future residence.
