Monday at approximately 2:30 PM, Indiana Conservation Officers observed what appeared to be evidence of a vehicle entering Richards Lake near 50 South and 1500 West in Linton, Indiana.

Indiana Conservation Officers utilized Side Scan Sonar and SCUBA divers to determine a vehicle was in fact in the water.  The search ended at approximately 8:00 PM and resumed early Tuesday morning.

Due to the rocky underwater high wall and the vehicle at a depth of 55 feet, the extraction was dangerous and technical in nature.  District 8 ICO’s aided divers from Districts 5 and 7 by mobilizing their ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) to pinpoint the location and report on the vehicle’s stability on the rock wall.

At approximately 3:00 PM, a recovery was made on the vehicle belonging to the subject of a recent Silver Alert, Robert G. Waters (85) of Linton.  The body of Mr. Waters was recovered by ICO divers.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death and an autopsy is scheduled for December 20, 2017.

Other Agencies on the scene included the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, Dugger Police Department, Greene County Coroner, UDWI REMC, and Ken’s Westside Wrecker Service.
