David R. Halter

David R. Halter, age 73, of Washington, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on the family farm, on Monday, December 11, 2017.
He was born on March 28, 1944 in Washington to Eugene and Helen (Gartner) Halter. He graduated from Washington Catholic High School in 1962 and Vincennes University in 1964. He was a lifelong grain and livestock farmer, and had received the Pike County Conservation Farmer of the Year award, along with his brother Earl. He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and enjoyed ice fishing and rabbit hunting. David had a deep love of his family and was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren. He loved attending cattle and farm equipment auctions and watching large equipment in action.
He is survived by his wife, RoseAnn (Helming) Halter, whom he married, March 2, 1974; two sons, Steven (Jaime) Halter of Washington and Michael Halter of Louisville, Kentucky; one daughter, Sandra (Noah) Sturgeon of Fishers; seven grandchildren, Jackson Halter, Isaac Halter, Lucas Halter, Kaitlyn Sturgeon, Lauren Sturgeon, Alyssa Sturgeon and Ethan Sturgeon; brother, Bernard (Sue) Halter of Washington; two sisters, Virginia (Don) Songstad of Columbus, Ohio and Mary Agnes Sparks of Evansville; sister-in-law, Malinda Halter of Washington
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Earl Halter
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church with Father Paul Ferguson as celebrant. Burial will follow in St John Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday at Ed Lee Mortuary, with a wake service being held at 3:30 PM, and Visitation will also be from 8:30 – 9:30 AM on Friday at Ed Lee Mortuary.
