An 18 year old was jailed in Dubois County yesterday morning after trying to flee police, crashing his car and then refusing to comply with officers.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Office reports that their officers have increased patrols in the Birdseye area due to complaints of drugs, burglaries, thefts and erratic driving.  Thursday morning at 9:34-am a deputy tried to stop  s pickup headed south on 145 just outside Birdseye for a routine registration check. The truck fled and a chase ensued up to 90 miles an hour.

The truck then went off the road and hit a ditch.  The truck rolled several times before coming to rest partially in the road.  The truck’s driver, 18-year-old Tristan Harlan of Birdseye got out on his own but refused to cooperate with officers.  A bag containing meth was found on his person and a smoking pipe found near the truck.  Harlan was taken to Memorial Hospital in Jasper for some injuries in the crash.  Police say he admitted to never having a driver’s license.  They also found out the truck had a false registration and there was no insurance,
