Ruth Elizabeth Haflett, 80 passed away at 4:15 pm on November 23, 2017 at Oak Village Nursing Home in Oaktown. Ruth was born on August 19, 1937 in Chandler, IN the daughter of Virgil and Mary Lou (Hargis) Horrall. She married Thomas Turner and he preceded her in death. She then married Ralph Haflett and he also preceded her in death.

Ruth was a member of The Salvation Army and taught music as a way to introduce people to God. She was a graduate of Bicknell High School and The Salvation Army Training School. Ruth had played piano at church since she was fifteen. She also played the trombone in high school and the church band and was in the women’s bible study group and a Cub Scout Pack Leader.

Survivors include her sons, Mark Turner and his wife Sandra of Chicago; David Turner of Tucson, AZ; daughter, Deborah Ricks and her husband Steve of Fishers, IN; sisters, Yvonne McCrery and her husband Henry of Spavinaw, OK; Iva Lou McCabe and her husband Mac of Vincennes; Mary Sewell of Vincennes; sister-in-law, Diane Horrall of Oaktown; grandchildren, Jasmine and Jacob Turner, Elizabeth and Bramwell Turner, Clarissa and Thomas Ricks, Brittany and Melina Haflett, Troy Haflett, Mark Haflett, Jr. and Robin Haflett; as well as Eight great grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Abner Horrall and Thomas Horrall.

Friends may visit with Ruth’s family from 9-10 am on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at the Vincennes Salvation Army, 2300 N 2nd Street followed by a funeral service at 10:00 am officiated by Col. Tom Lewis. Ruth will be taken to the Eagle Creek Salvation Army, 4400 N. High School Road in Indianapolis following services in Vincennes for a 3:00 pm funeral service officiated by Col. Tom Lewis. Interment will follow in Lincoln Memory Gardens, 6851 S. Indianapolis Rd., Whitestown, IN 46075. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Vincennes Salvation Army.
