Local authorities are advising the public of a local scammer.
Daviess County Deputy JR Crew has told the Washington Times Herald he believes the man has been working the area for several months. The scammer uses a fake name and says he needs money to pay back rent claiming he was hurt on the job and doesn’t have money. He gives fake landlord names as well. The man has hit up individuals, churches and businesses. Reports also state he has shown up in Knox County with a female accomplice.
Crew says people should check into the persons and situation before giving any money. He says if you are solicited for a hand out you can call police and ask if the person is legit. Usually in our area someone knows somebody who can determine if it’s a real person with a real need.
