Several area Soil and Water Conservation Districts will share part of $900,000 in Clean Water Indiana Grants to help fund conservation projects designed to improve water quality across the states.

The Indiana Department of Agriculture and the State Soil Conservation Board made the announcements of the awards yesterday.

Knox County was awarded $52,500 and will collaborate with Pike, Sullivan, Dubois, and Warrick Counties;  Dubois county was awarded $95,250 and will collaborate with Daviess and Martin counties; Pike County will receive $84,000 and will collaborate with Gibson County.

The Clean Water Indiana program is funded, in part, by the state’s cigarette tax revenue. It was established to provide financial assistance to landowners and conservation districts, as an effort to reduce non-point sources of water pollution.

While the grant proposals vary in scope, projects are designed to support the local conservation efforts of Indiana’s Soil And water conservation districts.  That could include actions such as  installing a filter strip, planting cover crops or hiring staff to provide technical assistance, education and training.
