A Montgomery man was injured when a van apparently hit a piece of farm equipment last night.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Department got the call at 8:07pm concerning the incident on County Road 650-East, just north of 400-North near Montgomery.  They arrived to find an injured person on the ground and a van in a ditch.

Accident reports say Mathew Stoll was operating a tractor while his brother, 23 year old Randall Stoll was behind him on a piece of horse-drawn farm machinery.   Mathew Stoll said both were leaving the bean field for the night and pulled onto 650 headed south. He told officers his lights on the tractor were on.    He said he saw an approaching vehicle but had time to get out on the road and did, and then heard a loud noise.  He looked back and saw his brother Randall under the piece of farm machinery.  He lifted it and held it off until some passers-by stopped to help.  Randall Stoll was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital. Reports say he was incapacitated and complained of head pain.  He was later flown to St. Vincent’s in Indianapolis

Officers talked to the driver of the ’09 Dodge Caravan, 73-year-old Emma Silcock of Elnora. She said she was south and saw headlights up ahead that she believed was an oncoming vehicle in the other lane.   She said she hit something and ended up in the ditch. She was not injured.
