Washington School Board approves the new budget

budget-3-2

The Washington Community School Board approved their $27 million budget at last night’s regular meeting.

The tax rate for 2018 is being advertised at over $1.97 per $100 of assessed valuation.  The rate is advertised high and will likely be readjusted by the state as it has before.  School Superintendent Dr. Dan Roach explained that the budget and tax rates are advertised high because a budget can be cut by the state but a school system cannot ask for extra money if they advertise a budget low and then need more.  Some of the specific funds could be added to or taken away from by the state through the process.

There was no public comment on the budget which again…was approved unanimously.
