Tuesday night, state police in Orange County stopped a vehicle for speeding and not using a turn signal on State Road 37 in Orleans.  The driver, 54-year-old Martin Robbins of Bedford jumped out of the car and ran away.  He was chased and caught and put into a transport cage in the back of an Orleans Police Car.  While the state police officer was continuing his investigation away from the car, Robbins managed to slip the handcuffs from behind his back to his front.  He climbed out of the cage into the driver’s seat of the police car and then fled on foot.

After a perimeter was set up and with the help of a K9 unit, Robbins was found in a shed on property on South 2nd in Orleans.

He was jailed in Orange County for Resisting Law Enforcement, Operating While Suspended and While Intoxicated.  He’s also charged with Escape and Residential Entry.  He was found to be wanted on warrants out of Lawrence County, Indiana for being a Habitual Traffic Violator and in California for Burglary.
