Indiana’s Lt. Governor, Suzanne Crouch, was in Washington Friday and spoke to a good crowd at the Daviess County Economic Development Corporation’s Annual Award Luncheon.   Before the meeting, the Lt. Governor toured Washington and complimented the Business community and leaders for moving Washington and Daviess County Forward.  Crouch noted that Indiana’s unemployment level is at a 16 year low, with Daviess County’s unemployment rate even lower than the State’s.   Crouch said that Indiana is focusing on workforce development so there will be enough prepared workers for the new jobs that are coming into Indiana.

The Lt. Governor praised the efforts of the Daviess County Economic Development Corporations, specifically pointing to new industries and development in the County.  Crouch also applauded the rejuvenation of Washington’s Main Street with the opening of the CORE Center and the coming of a new restaurant next door to the Center.

Before the Lt. Governor spoke, Daviess County Foundation Board President Phil O’Haver reviewed the Foundation’s continuing efforts to expand Daviess County’s economy.  O’Haver mentioned M&C Tech, Eagle Railcar, the Cross Dock near the i-69 interchange, and the Purdue Research Park at WestGate as successful projects that are bringing new jobs to the County.  O’Haver said talks are continuing with the Japanese Consul-General.

The Daviess County Economic Development Foundation Partners in Progress Awards were presented by Washington Mayor Joe Wellman.  The volunteers at the Daviess County Museum were recognized for revitalizing the Museum, and in Wellman’s words, bring it into the 21st Century.  Also recognized were the leaders in Washington’s Team-up for Clean-up campaign.  Wellman praised the volunteerism in the City and County.   Daviess County Economic Development Director Ron Arnold presented an individual Partner in Progress Award to Harry Hanson for his long-time support of the Foundation.
