In the absence of Mayor Joe Wellman, Washington City Council President Alan Brown presided over Monday evening’s City Council and Board of Works meetings.

The Council took care of three items aimed at the City’s 2018 budget.  The Council approved a resolution reducing the City Budget by removing a line item for the Cumulative Building Fund and rolling the encumbered funds into next year’s budget.  The Council also approved three ordinances setting the pay scale for City employees and officials.

The Council heard a report on the Kiwanis Cabin in East Side Park.  Park Superintendent Kip Kelly reported that quotes for remodeling the Cabin were in the neighborhood of $38,000 vs estimates of $140,000 to $150,000 to rebuild the structure.  The Council agreed to allocate funds to remodel the cabin in the 2018 budget.

The Board of Public Works and Safety met after the Council and approved a request from the White Steamer to close two blocks of Main Street on September 30.  The restaurant will be sponsoring a Street Dance to benefit Riley Hospital and the local VFW.  The Board also approved the promotion of a part-time Park Department employee to a full-time position.
