A local history group has decided that if a civil war monument in Washington is to be taken down it’s ok. There are three monuments in Daviess County.

The Civil War Roundtable meets once a month 10 months out of the year to discuss the War Between the States.  The Washington Times Herald says at their Monday meeting this week, member Monty Critchlow said if a monument is to be removed they want it done legally so it can be preserved.  Critchlow says he understands how some can view the monuments in a bad light.

Group member Don Spillman was quoted by the paper as saying he thinks the monuments here shouldn’t offend others as they all represent men who fought for the Union to end slavery and there are no confederate monuments.
