The Daviess County Commissioners on Tuesday agreed to a new fee schedule for vaccines and services from the County Health Department.  County Health Nurse Kathy Sullender told the Commissioners the changes were necessary to meet the increased cost of vaccines and new regulations.  Sullender also received permission to apply for a State Health Department grant for NARCAN kits.  NARCAN is a brand name for naloxone which treats opioid overdoses.  Sullender reported that between 2012 and 2015, there were five overdose deaths in Daviess County, there were also 25 non-fatal overdoses treated at the Daviess Community Hospital Emergency Room between, 2011 and 2015.  Sullender said she believes the number of deaths reported as caused by over dose is low.    The Health Department will apply for 50 kits.

–Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the commissioners gave Emergency Management Director Scott Myers permission to apply for five state grants for equipment for area safety departments

-The Commissioners also approved two maintenance projects for the ninety year old Courthouse.  According Courthouse Maintenance Supervisor Scott Schnarr, the four Courthouse clocks “are beyond repair and it would be silly to put any more money into them”.  Schnarr presented three bids to replace the clocks.  The Commissioners approved the low bid of $10,950 from Americlock to replace the old clocks.  The Commissioners also approved a bid from Countywide Construction to power wash the exterior of the courthouse and soda blast heavy mildew and rust stains from the limestone.  The total bid came in at around $11,000 for that project.
