Charles Freeman “Charlie” Sorrells

Charles Freeman “Charlie” Sorrells, age 89, of Shoals, passed away on August 16, 2017 at 4:05a.m., at the IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington. He was born in Martin County, Indiana on February 5, 1928 to Lawrence and Maude Emily (Sherfick) Sorrells. He married Alice (Wininger) Sorrells and she preceded him in death on July 31, 1999.
He graduated Shoals High School in 1946, retired from NSWC Crane in 1987 and was a US Army Veteran serving in WWII and two tours in Korea. He was a member of the American Legion Post 61 for 56 continuous years. He was a member of the Shoals Christian Church, an avid gardener, loved to play euchre, and loved conversation with family and friends.
Survivors include daughters, Debbie Sorrells of Shoals, Beth Allbright of Shoals; a son, Steve (Gaye) Sorrells of Montgomery; brothers, Lawrence “Son” Sorrells of Shoals, Loren “Greasy” Sorrells of Spottsville, KY; sisters, Emma Lou Line of Hillham and Alice Boyd of Shoals. Also surviving are grandchildren, Angel (Travis) Davis of Loogootee, Kyle McKibben of Loogootee, Terri Allbright of Odon, Jay Sorrells of Miami, FL, Becky (Jered) Hemmingway of Washington and Connor Sorrells of Indianapolis; and great grandchildren, Baily, Sidney and Pierce Davis of Loogootee, Logan Wagler and MacKenzie Allbright of Odon and Asher Hemmingway of Washington. Several Nieces and Nephews survive.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son, Robert “Bobbie” Sorrells; a brother, Sid Sorrells; and sisters, Beverly Tow, Norma Collins and Nina Hagen.
Funeral services will be held at the Queen-Lee Chapel of the Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Shoals on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 11:00am with Pat Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery with military honors by the Shoals American Legion Post 61. Visitation will be from 4-8pm Friday at the funeral home and on Saturday until the time of service.
