James L. ‘Jim’ Haag, age 89, of Washington, passed away at 5:40 am on Saturday at the Villages of Oak Ridge.

He was born on January 18, 1928 in Somerville, Indiana to Firman and Mary Jane (Hellums) Haag.  Jim was an amazing man that enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and most importantly being surrounded by his family and friends. He was a very wealthy man, not in a monetary sense, rather rich in life of all who had the pleasure of knowing him, and who called husband, dad, brother, papaw and friend. He worked 28 years as a barber and 25 years as a fastener salesman. Jim was a Washington City Councilman for 18 years, was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Washington American Legion, and Life Member of the Washington Knights of Columbus. He was also a World War II Navy veteran.

Jim is survived by his wife, Edith (Phillippe) Haag whom he married on October 27, 1951; one daughter, Debbie Burris of Washington; four sons; Greg Haag, Gary (Lori) Haag, Randy (Mary) Haag all of Washington, and J.R. (Julia) Haag of Fishers. Sister; Doris Madden of Spotsville, Kentucky; brothers, Robert Haag of Carmel and Joe Haag of Beech Grove; 13 Grandchildren and 17 Great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Bryan Haag, brothers, Gerald M. Haag, Charles Hurbert Haag, Paul Haag, Lester Haag, Albertus Haag, and Francis Haag; sisters, Rosemary Sinnott, June Zimmerman.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday At Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church with Father Paul Ferguson as celebrant burial will follow in St John Cemetery with Military graveside rites by the Washington American Legion and VFW.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday at Ed Lee Mortuary with a rosary by the KofC at 7:45 PM.
