A joint $1.6 billion Toyota/Mazda plant will be built somewhere in the US.  It would be operational in 2021, produce 300,000 vehicles per year and employ 4000 people.  A US site has not been picked.

Daviess County Economic Development Corporation Director Ron Arnold and Washington Mayor Joe Wellman are making sure Washington and Daviess County are in the running for the site.  Arnold says Daviess County certainly a location for such a plant referring to two mega site plans that have been worked on for over 18 months.  Currently though, Arnold says knows only as much as we do at this point and he’s had no information of the plant possibly locating here.  He says he’s confident that property acquisition would likely take place before any big announcement would come to him. Wellman says it’s too early to be excited.

Arnold says efforts continue to do whatever it takes to lure such an investment to the community.  He added that several other economic development projects are still on the table but had no other information on them.
