Washington City Council Talks Economic Development

For the most part, Monday night’s Washington City Council dealt with economic development.  

First on the agenda, Greg Gotwald reported on the Tokheim property on Front Street.  Gotwald, a native of Washington, told the Council that the Southern Indiana Development Corporation is looking at redevelopment of the former industrial area and are in the process of doing environmental testing on the ground water and air quality of the area in conjunction with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management using funding from the Federal Environmental Protection Agency.  Gotwald said a public information meeting would be held at 6:30 p.m,  Friday, at the West end Fire Station to discuss the findings.

The Council also renewed five economic tax phase-in abatements for industrial development on Washington’s east side.  Mayor Wellman explains

 

The Mayor also reported on the City’s application for the Community Crossings grant for road repair.

 

 

Washington’s Board of Works recieved four bids to repair and repair the Campbell Hill water tower.  All bids came in lower than extimates.  The bids were taken under advisement.    And Washington Parks and Recreation Superintendent Kip Kelley reminded everyone about the annual Back to School Bash at East Side Park on Saturday.  The Back to School Bash begins with a youth fishing tournament at 8:00 a.m.  Other activities including inflatables, will be open until 4 Saturday afternoon.  The Back to School Bash is free and open to the public.
