The Daviess County Sheriff’s Department worked three crashes on Sunday.  One involved two people who were later flown to Evansville with injuries.  One involved a motorist who left the scene of two crashes and a car fell from a trailer on I69.

VEHICLE FLIPS

-A vehicle flipped over on US 50 just east of 300-East Sunday night.  Authorities responded to a 911 call at about 7:20-pm.  When officers arrived two people were on the scene.  20-year-old Makayla Spears of Odon told police she was driving and her and 22-year-old Eric Long of Washington were both wearing seatbelts.  Upon investigation, accident reports state that the officers determined Long had actually been driving and neither had been restrained.  Both had been partially ejected from the 2007 GMC car.  Both were taken to DCH and later flown to St. Vincent’s for treatment of injuries.

LEAVING THE SCENE

-A man was cited twice for leaving the scene of an accident over the weekend.  At 1-am on Sunday, police were called to 100-south where a vehicle was on scene that had hit a utility pole partially breaking it.  The car had to be towed away.  Police discovered the vehicle belonged to 44 year old Joshua Elliott. He told police he was leaving McDonald’s and had medical problems and could not see the road.  He walked away after hitting the pole.  He later admitted to a previous accident at 3:05 Saturday afternoon when he ran off the road on 150-north after he said a rock from a truck hit his vehicle.  Elliott hit a mailbox and left the scene. Elliott was cited for the leaving the scene of an accident in both incidents.

CAR FALLS FROM TRAILER

-No one was injured when a car on a trailer fell off along I69 Sunday afternoon.  Accident reports say that Bryan C. Payne of Martinsville had gone to Evansville and bought a car.  He was hauling it back on a trailer.  He says his Ford pickup hit a bump in the road on I69 at the 58 mile marker.  He said the bump caused a malfunction in the ratchet straps and the car fell of the trailer, went over an embankment, up a hill, through a steel fence and landed in a farm field.
