The Washington City Council has passed a resolution opposing a needle exchange program. Two weeks ago, Daviess County Prosecutor Dan Murrie appeared before the Council and discussed the problems associated with having such programs being utilized now in eight Indiana counties to combat the spread of AIDS/HIV, and other diseases associated by the national opioid epidemic.  Before passing the resolution, the Council added “at this time” to the resolution to provide some leeway in the event current circumstances change.   The city joins other Daviess County Government bodies in currently opposing a program.    Some agree that such programs in areas where there is not a heroin or disease epidemic, the programs can increase drug use and dealing in a community.
